What is Happening at our Refuge?
Birdfest and Bluegrass, 2010. Nature, wildlife and local history reign supreme at our annual Birdfest and Bluegrass festival Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10. Join us as we celebrate the coming of fall and the wildlife that make the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge their winter home. Birdfest and Bluegrass is an opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of fall migration throughout the refuge and at the same time enjoy the best of Bluegrass music in the charming small town of Ridgefield, Washington.

There will be two full days of exciting activities planned for birders, history buffs, music lovers, and family members of all ages. See Birdfest Schedule of Events to plan your weekend.

This year our featured bird for Birdfest is the dusky Canada goose. The dusky Canada goose is a medium-sized subspecies of the Canada goose that nests in the Copper River Delta and other scattered sites in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The dusky Canada goose primarily winters in the Willamette River and Lower Columbia River Valleys of which Ridgefield NWR is part. They arrive here from their nesting grounds towards the end of September. Watch for them!
